What is the Gospel of Jesus Christ?
The Gospel of Jesus Christ has the potential to transform your life; but before defining the Gospel, examine your answers to the following questions:
- Who is God?
- What is your relationship to Him?
- Would you like to experience His blessings in your life?
- Would you like to know that you will spend eternity in Heaven with Him when your life on earth is over?
The Gospel is the good news that you can know who God is on a personal level; you can be a part of His family, experience the blessing of His presence in your life day-by-day, and know without a doubt that when you die you will go to be with Him in Heaven.
Who is God?
God is the Creator of the universe. He made the earth and everything that lives on it, including man. He is all-knowing, all-powerful, present everywhere at all times, and He loves me and you. Genesis 1:1 Genesis 2:7 Nehemiah 9:6 Proverbs 15:3 Isaiah 40:28
What is your relationship to Him?
Every person is born with something between himself and God. Most of us would admit a desire to know God but realize that something is holding us back; something is missing and we are on a continual search to find out what it is. That “something” which stands between us and God is our innate sin-nature; a heart to live life our way and not God’s way. We all have it and we all know it. Sin is our condition and it manifests itself in many ways, all of which separate us from the holy God who can’t be in sin’s presence. Romans 3:23 James 4:17
Man’s sin-nature has been present in every human being since Adam, the first man ever created by God; and it has always separated man from God. It keeps us from knowing Him on earth, and it will keep us from being with Him in Heaven. And there’s nothing we can do to change our nature, as hard as we might try. Romans 6:23 Psalm 51:5 Titus 3:5 Ephesians 2:8-9
Would you like to experience His blessings in your life?
Recognizing the existence of our sin-nature is the bad news, but the Gospel is the good news. The Gospel is the truth that God has provided a way for us to be united with Him, in spite of our sinful condition. The way to God is through Jesus Christ. John 14:6
Jesus was born over 2000 years ago, but He’s existed forever because He’s the Son of God. He walked on the earth for 33 years, ministering to the needs of thousands to prove His heart of compassion, performing remarkable miracles to prove His power as God, and eventually giving His life on a Roman cross to prove His willingness to suffer on our behalf. John 1:1 John 1:14 Mark 6:34 John 2:11 Romans 5:8
Justice demands a penalty for our sinful nature in order to bridge the gap between God and man. That penalty was paid by Jesus when He was crucified. Romans 6:23 Leviticus 17:11 Hebrews 9:22
Amazingly, Jesus didn’t stay in the grave. Three days after being placed in a tomb, records indicate that Jesus rose from the dead and continued His ministry to His followers. He did this for a short time before being observed ascending towards Heaven with a promise that He will return again some day. Romans 1:4 Acts 1:3 Acts 1:9-12
How does this allow us to experience the blessings of God in our lives today? The Gospel is the good news that Jesus Christ’s death on the cross is an open invitation for all of us to be reconciled to God. If we believe that Jesus’ sacrifice was made on our behalf and confess to God our faith in His payment for our sin, which we could do nothing about on our own, then God will forgive us. He will accept Jesus’ payment on our behalf and allow us to have intimate fellowship with Him on this earth. Romans 10:9 John 1:12 Romans 10:13
Would you like to know that you will spend eternity in Heaven with Him when your life on earth is over?
The Gospel also provides hope for those who have trusted in Jesus Christ’s sacrifice for sin that they will have life beyond this present existence. Everyone is born with an eternal soul, but not everyone will spend eternity with God in Heaven. Only those who have trusted in Jesus Christ will have that opportunity. But oh, what an opportunity. John 3:16 John 10:28
In heaven we will have mansions prepared by God, walk on streets of gold, spend forever with loved one’s who know the Lord, and most importantly be eternally in the presence of the one and only God. John 14:2 Revelation 22:1-5 Revelation 21:4 1 Corinthians 2:9 Ephesians 2:6 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18
The Gospel of Jesus Christ is good news!
